Welcome to the Julius Caesar Module! In this module, you will learn about one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, Julius Caesar. This play centers around ambition, betrayal, friendship, honor, and in true Shakspeare fashion – fate versus free will. Below you will find some of the objectives we will cover for the unit as well as the steps for completing the module.
Objectives:
- Identify characteristics of a Shakespearean tragedy, including tragic hero and tragic flaw.
- Analyze complex characters as how they interact with others and advance the plot or develop the theme.
- Identify and analyze dramatic irony and rhetorical devices.
- Read and comprehend a Shakespearean drama.
- Draw conclusions; cite textual evidence.
- Write an argument.
- Identify and analyze ethos, pathos, and logos.
- Construct and deliver a speech.
Follow the steps below to complete the module.
- You will be writing and delivering a speech over Life in the Elizabethan England. Select a partner and to the Julius Caesar Module Resource Page to read over the assignment. Write the speech and practice it. Be prepared to present the speech on the day designated by the teacher.
- Go to the Julius Caesar Module Resource Page and open up the Shakespeare Prezi. Review the Prezi and make sure to pay special attention to the construction and set up of the Globe Theater.
- Now you will be building your very own Globe Theatre! Go the Globe Theatre Link. Watch the videos below to help you put your Globe Theatre together. One tip is color your pieces before you assemble your Globe Theatre.
This activity is meant to be fun and not perfect. Don’t spend hours of time trying to be perfect. I will have a prize for the top Globe Theatres. Watch the following three videos for step by step instructions. Goodluck and remember these are supposed to be fun!
- Now we are going to cover the concept of tone. Tell the teacher you are ready for the tone PowerPoint presentation. She will go over it with the whole class at the same time.
- Go to the Julius Caesar Module Resource Page and click on the Julius Caesar Prezi. Open the Prezi and complete the Quick Write on a Google Doc. Email me your Quick Write as soon as you complete it. Then continue through the Prezi. Pay special attention to the power dynamics between leaders during ancient Rome.
- Go to my.hrw.com. Go to Unit 11: The Tragedy of Julius Caesar: The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. On the left-hand side go to the History Video. Watch it and be prepared to discuss it with your class.
- Now you are ready to begin reading. Go to Google Classroom. Open the questions for Act 1, Scene 1 and answer them as you being reading Julius Caesar. After you have completed your questions submit them to Google Classroom.
- Read Act 1, Scene 2. Open the questions for Act 1, Scene 2 in Google Classroom. Read the act and complete the questions. Submit your answers to Google Classroom. When you are done with that go ask your teacher for “The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Act 1, Scene 2, Close Reading Assignment”. Annotate Brutus and Cassius’s speeches from this Act. Watch the videoz below to help you annotate Cassius’s speech. Go to this website to help you annotate Brutus’s speech.
- You will need to find a partner for this activity. Go to Google Classroom and open the Doc called, “What’s in a Name”. Follow the directions and submit it when you are done.
- Read Act 1, Scene 3. Open the questions for Act 1, Scene 3 in Google Classroom. Complete and submit to Google Classroom.
- Read Act 2, Scene 1. Open the questions for Act 2, Scene 1 in Google Classroom. Complete them and submit to Google Classroom.
- Watch the “Death of Caesar” video below.
- Read Act 2, Scene 2. Open the questions for Act 2, Scene 2 in Google Classroom. Complete them and submit to Google Classroom. When you are done watch this video here.
- Go Google Classroom and complete the assignment titled “Who’s Phone is this?”. Submit it to Google Classroom when you are done.
- Read Act 2, Scenes 3 & 4. Open the questions for Act 2, Scenes 3 & 4 in Google Classroom. Complete them and submit to Google Classroom.
- Go to Google Classroom and complete the assignment titled “Julius Caesar Character Map”.
- Read Act 3, Scene 1. Open the questions Act 3, Scene 1 in Google Classroom. Complete them and submit them to Google Classroom.
- Watch the video below. Then go over to Google Classroom and complete the assignment titled “Police Report”. Print it out, fill it out, and then submit it to your teacher.
- Read Act 3, Scene 2. Open the questions for Act 3, Scene 2 on Google Classroom. Submit them when you are done. When you are finished watch the videos below.

Now that you have familiarized yourself with ethos, pathos, and logos. Now go to your teacher and get the closed reading assignment for Act 3, Scene 2. Read through the analysis on this web page and annotate Brutus’s Funeral Speech, Act 3, Scene 2. Then read through the analysis on this web page and annotate Antony’s Funeral Speech, Act 3, Scene 2.
- Then tell the teacher you are ready to review Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. She will help you.
- Read Act 4, Scene 1. Go to Google Classroom and answer questions for Act 4, Scene 1. Submit them to Google Classroom.
- Go to Google Classroom. Open up the document called “An American Brutus”. Read this article. Now complete “An American Brutus” and then submit it to Google Classroom.
- Go to Google Classroom. Open up the Slide title “End of Act 4 Video”. Watch the video below and respond to the questions in the Google Slide.
- Read Act 5, Scene 1. Answer the questions in Google Classroom and then submit them. When you are done watch the video here.
- Read Act 5, Scenes 2&3 and answer the questions over them in Google classroom. Then submit your answers.
- Read Act 5, Scenes 4&5 and answer the questions over them in Google classroom. Then submit your answers. When you are finished watch this video here. Then watch the video below.
- Now you are ready to begin writing your final essay over Julius Caesar. Go Google Classroom and look at the essay prompts. Y0u will need to write a five-page paragraph persuasive essay over one of the topics. Write your essay on a Google Doc. When you are finished submit it to Google Classroom.
- Now you are ready to take the exam. Tell the teacher when you are ready to take the exam.
