Welcome to devotedscholar.com. This website is born out of my love for teaching and my desire to push my students to master 21st-century skills. It is also born out of a gaping need for a return to civil discourse. It does not take a political analyst to realize that the polarization of ideals in this country cripples our ability to make effective improvements. In the upcoming years, our students will be faced with the challenge of dealing with a prolonged economic recession, social security, persistent and rising joblessness, our growing national debt, health care, weakened financial markets, global warming, and a transitioning technology-based economy. Unless we as a country return to the practice of civil discourse to solve problems we are headed for a heap of troubles. It is our responsibility as educators to guide our students to practice civil discourse, and in essence, prepare them to ask thoughtful questions, listen respectfully, research, respond considerately, consider multiple viewpoints, advocate, and to collaborate. I try to utilize technology and project-based learning to teach civil discourse and ultimately prepare our students to function in our transitioning society. It is not only our responsibility to teach our students civil discourse but to also give them the opportunity to utilize technology in creative and innovative ways. Ultimately, my goal is to prepare students to engage in civic involvement and collaborate and create through technology. This website is also intended to help facilitate classes from 8th grade to college level freshmen. Many of the courses are aligned with the Mass Customized Learning approach. I hope you enjoy the website and if you have any questions or comments feel free to contact me at the contact page.
